For the 10th time, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia will award the Innovation Prize of the state of NRW 2020. The deadline for submission of proposals is 24 November 2019.

With the award of the Innovation Prize in 2008, the state government has since been focusing on personalities whose research and development work make an outstanding contribution to turning ideas into reality. The Innovation Award honors people in North Rhine-Westphalia who, on the basis of excellent research, make it possible to solve problems for different goals of our society and our everyday lives. The award recognizes both work in the field of basic research and projects with company-related applications with great potential for practical implementation.

After the Future Prize of the Federal President, the Innovation Prize of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia is the highest endowed award of its kind in Germany. The Innovation Prize is awarded in the following three categories:

  • special innovation achievements of companies, universities or research institutions
  • outstanding innovation performance by junior researchers or outstanding research-based start-ups
  • an honorary prize

A top-class jury chaired by the President of the German Academy of Science and Engineering selects the winners. The prize for the category "Innovation" is endowed with 100,000 euros and for the category "Young Scientists" with 50,000 euros. The honorary prize is not linked to any prize money.

The closing date for nominations for the current competition is 24 November 2019. The award ceremony will take place on the evening of 26 October 2020 in the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen K21 Ständehaus.
